As per the tourism officials confirming on Thursday, visits to Florida’s Mecca region continued to grow last year, in spite of few terrible incidents happening there, making Orlando to keep its attractive image as the most visited destination in the United States. Last year, more than 68 million visitors entered Orlando, as expressed by the tourism officials. This accounted a 3 percent increase over 2015. However, last summer didn’t prove to be that good for Orlando.
Some of the awful incidents like the shooting at Pulse nightclub, the death of a toddler by an alligator at Disney World and the fatal shooting of singer Christina Grimmie after a concert in a week raised terror that tourists might scare away. Besides, the Brexit vote in Great Britain, Canadian dollar getting weak and economic crunches in Brazil also raised concerns that Orlando’s largest sources of international visitors would be less traveling.
Nevertheless, George Aguel, the head of Visit Orlando, the regional tourism marketing agency, made statement that the market for domestic visitors remained undisturbed and strong.
To quote Aguel, ‘there was a lot of attention on us in ways that could have been distracting. But we have an amazing emotional connection with families … something that creates memories for them.’
