In terms of visitor spending India ranks sixth among the top 10 international markets. Around 1.17 million Indians visited US in 2016 as stated by the US Department of Commerce in its latest annual report.

India ranked 11th considering the number of international visitors to the US last year.

Brand USA president and CEO Chris Thompson mentioned that India was probably the most significant origin countries as it is more prone to visiting friends and relatives.

US capture 5.5 per cent of the outbound Indian travel market and India had the highest increase in visitor spending surging by 14 per cent.

He further added that the relationship between the two largest democracies is good relating to the travel and tourism between the two countries.

A large number of Indian population is settled in the US, a majority come for educational opportunities and the trend saw families coming over following the students.

Thompson will be visiting India in September for the annual trade mission that will focus Indian visitation to the US and educating the Indian travel industry on the limitless potential US has as a travel destination.

It was noted that New York, California and Hawaii were the top three destinations for Indian tourists, next three was Florida, Washington and Texas. This was followed by New Jersey, Alaska,Virginia and Michigian.

Thompson expects a record attendance through the US delegation this year.

After the Trump administration took over no major impact had been on the flow of the tourist and visitors from India.

In 2015 the average length of stay in the US for Indian tourist was 35.3 nights that rose to 36.9 nights in 2016.
