Peace Boat, a Japanese non-governmental organization operating educational cruises is currently working on a fantastic project to construct the most sustainable cruise vessel in the booming industry.

Presently it is in the final stages of planning.

The cruise ship named ‘Ecoship’ would be created by Finland's Arctech. It would cost nearly $500 million and financed in part by some impact investors, funds, rich families and also individuals who were eager to upgrade the world and also make a profit.

Yoshioka Tatsuya who is a founder of Peace Boat mentioned that Ecoship was actually a dream for him mainly because using a traditional cruise vessel was bit frustrating for them though they made the best efforts to cut down on the emissions.

A conventional cruise ship would be able to burn hundreds of tons of heavy fuel oil a day and emit as much particulate matter as a million cars, as per NABU that is a German environmental group.

The 'Ecoship' would be fueled by a cleaner fusion of solar panels, wind power and liquid natural gas and would produce nearly 40% less carbon dioxide as compared to a traditional cruise ship.

Peace Boat is now interacting to influence investors in China, Europe, America and Japan and might provide them bonds or equity.

It would be utilizing loans, probably crowdfunding with an aim to raise the total.

Tatsuya feels that they would have to opt cautiously their working partners since they share a long-term vision and not just to finance an asset. The cruise ship Ecoship's design resembles that of a whale. It would be smaller than other cruise ships that are presently being constructed and would accommodate 2,000 passengers and host conferences and events while docked.

Peace Boat is hopeful that it would set sail on its maiden voyage in the year 020. It also hopes to steadily become a showcase for the future of the industry.

Tatsuya however does not plan to stop after creating just a single cruise vessel since he believes that green tourism, is booming. He has asserted that by 2030 at least five new ships is necessary owing to the strong market demand.
