2018 Jeonnam International SUMUK Biennale featuring traditional Korean painting will be held jointly around Mokpo-si and Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do from September 1 to October 31, 2018.
More than 250 ink painters from 15 different countries including countries from Asia, Europe and America participated in this year’s event. The event challenged artists to recreate traditional Korean painting with their own touch.
The exhibition will be held at 6 different art galleries throughout Mokpo and Jindo including: Mokpo Culture & Arts Center, Nojeokbong Art Park & Museum, Mokpo Coastal Ferry Terminal Gallery, Namdo Traditional Art Museum, Kumbong Art Museum, and Oksan Art Museum.
After looking at the paintings, visitors can also participate in different programs including educational, experience, and event. Through Virtual Reality, you can experience the past and present of ink painting. Hands-on experience titled “I’m an ink artist” gives visitors a chance to design their own mug cup, painting, and fan. Performance and art markets are also planned for even more entertainment.
