Every year, from every corner of the globe, visitors gather here for a glimpse of the live performance. The word 'tattoo' comes from the closing time cry in the inns of the Low Countries during the 17th and 18th centuries - Doe den tap toe ('turn off the taps'). It is not just a local event, every year the performance is joined by a lot of musicians to show their superb talent. In 1952, the first overseas branch Orchestra Royal Netherlands Grenadiers band, as well as performers from Canada and France, took part in the performance in the same year. Over time, there have been performers from more than 30 countries that have appeared in the performances.
