National Theatre (Národnídivadlo) is a Golden Chapel with a turbulent history. The showcase theatre stage of the Czech Republic is a utopia for lovers of the performing arts.

After the original building was destroyed by a fire in 1881, Prague’s Golden Chapel, as the gold-crowned Neo-Renaissance building is known, was reconstructed with the help of financial contributions from the population. This is the place to watch the best operas, plays, and ballets from the classical Czech and international repertoire. Discover little-known corners of the National Theatre on a weekend tour, which will lead you from the foundation stone to the foyer, where you will see paintings by Mikoláš Aleš and other notable artists. When you are sitting in the auditorium, admire the beautiful stage curtain and the ceiling decorations of eight painted female figures representing the different art forms.
