The tax refund policy has taken effect in Beijing on July 1, 2015 for inbound tourists who go shopping there! Foreigners and those from the Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR and Taiwan who have stayed on the Chinese mainland for less than 183 consecutive days are entitled to a departure tax refund!
To apply for a tax refund, eligible tourists need to go to a designated store displaying the blue “TAX FREE” sign and buy goods valued at over RMB500 on the same day in one designated store. Make sure you obtain the invoices and the Departure Tax Refund Application Form at the stores, and apply for a tax refund with the day of departure less than 90 days from the day of purchase.
Tourists can go to Terminal 2 or 3 of Beijing Capital International Airport to go through the tax refund formalities. Please first verify the refunded articles at the airport customs, then get the refund with your passport, shopping invoices and the Departure Tax Refund Application Form at the “TAX FREE” places inside the airside.
Eligible tourists are entitled to a tax refund rate of 11%. With 2% charged by refund agencies as a commission fee, the tourist will receive a tax refund valued at 9% of price of the goods.
