Greater Sanya Tourism Economic Circle promoted in Kunming, Yunnan

On September 12th, 2017, a tourism promotional conference for the Greater Sanya Tourism Economic Circle was held in Kunming, in southwest China’s Yunnan province. The promotional conference was co-organized by tourism authorities from Sanya City and three counties in southern Hainan, namely, Lingshui, Ledong, and Boating.

Mr. Zou Ke, Deputy Director of the Kunming Tourism Development Commission, welcomed the Greater Sanya delegation and expressed his hope that the promotional event would serve as a platform between tourism-related enterprises in the two regions, and help boost economic and cultural exchange between the two regions.

The tourism industry is one of the pillars of the Greater Sanya Tourism Economic Circle. In 2016, approximately 19.5 million tourists staying overnight were registered in Sanya, Lingshui, Ledong, and Boating, accounting for 39.3 percent of the total in Hainan. Tourism revenue in 2016 reached RMB 35.258 billion, accounting for 52.5 percent of the total in Hainan.

During the promotional conference, Mr. Zheng Conghui, Deputy Director of the Sanya Tourism Development Commission (STDC), gave an introduction of the Greater Sanya Tourism Economic Circle and the charming tourism products it has to offer. He extended his invitation to local travel operators and the people of Kunming to visit and experience the unique charms of the Greater Sanya Tourism Economic Circle.

“Strengthening regional tourism cooperation is a trend in the development of the current tourism industry,” said Mr. Zheng, who added that the event was the first large-scale tourism promotional activity since the establishment of the Greater Sanya Tourism Economic Circle Tourism Alliance. The event is expected to help accelerate the tourism resource integration within the Greater Sanya Tourism Economic Circle, and boost the balanced development of southern Hainan’s tourism industry.

A business matchmaking meeting was held during the promotional event, with attendances of 19 tourism-related enterprises from the Greater Sanya Tourism Economic Circle and local travel operators from Kunming. According to intentional cooperation deals made at the meeting, some 48,000 tourist arrivals from Kunming and other places in Yunnan Province are expected to visit the Greater Sanya Tourism Economic Circle from October 2017 to October 2018.

The event in Kunming was the first stop of the Greater Sanya Tourism Economic Circle’s tourism marketing campaign in 2017. The event will be followed by stops in Guiyang in Guizhou province, Chengdu in Sichuan province, and Hefei in Anhui province.
