The currency of Japan is the yen (¥). The currency has banknotes and coins, and the six denominations of coins currently in circulation are the ¥1, ¥5, ¥10, ¥50, ¥100 and ¥500 coins, and the three denominations of banknotes are the ¥1,000, ¥2,000, ¥5,000 and ¥10,000 notes.
