The mosque is located in Citadel of Salah Al-Dinin the old town of Cairo. It was built in 1830 with a Turkish style. The walls inside and outside are covered with yellow Alabaster. On the front side of the mosque is carved with the Arabian epigraph, the Koran and the names of the four important people for Islam, Caliph Abu Bakr, Umar, Osman and Ali. The height of the big dome of the mosque is about 52 meters, the diameter is 21 meters. The two minarets rise into the sky, the distance between the top of the minaret and the ground is 85 meters. It is the symbol of Cairo. There is a bronze hurdle at the south of the mosque, which is the tomb of Mohamed Ali, the Egyptian general during the time of the Ottoman Empire. He was buried here when he died in 1849, so the mosque was named after him. The hanging bell in clock tower inside the mosque was the present given by the French King, Louis Phillips.
