Next year, passengers aboard Holland America Line’s Amsterdam will have the opportunity to earn their stripes as world travelers when they set sail for a 111-day Grand World Voyage.

This once-in-a-lifetime experience will make 26 ports-of-call in 23 countries spread over five continents with a concentration on stops in the Far East. And with 10 overnight stays, the opportunity to explore various ports is unparalleled.

The cruise starts (and ends) in Ft. Lauderdale, setting sail for the Pacific Ocean – an experience made all the more amazing with a daytime transit of the Panama Canal. The ship will make its way to Hawaii for an overnight, before making calls at Guam and Saipon, Northern Marina Islands.

The ship will make several stops in Japan, including an overnight in Osaka where passengers will have the opportunity to visit the world’s largest Buddha. From there, the Amsterdam will make two calls in South Korea (Incheon and Jeju) before sailing to China for three overnights in Xingang (Beijing), Shanghai and Hong Kong.

Vietnam is next on the itinerary, where passengers will be able to explore Nha Trang and Phu My (Ho Chi Minh City). Guests may opt to extend their visit with a trip to Angkor Wat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Southeast Asia’s most important archaeological sites. Home to the Khmer Empire between the 9th and 15th centuries, today it is still inhabited by people who can trace their ancestry back to the Angkor period.

The ship continues heading west for an overnight in Singapore and a visit to Port Kelang, known as the gateway to Kuala Lumpur. Passengers will have ample chances to discover the wonders of Sri Lanka, which as a UNESCO World Heritage Site has numerous must-see’s, including an elephant orphanage.

From there it’s on to India, where the ship makes an overnight in Mumbai (Bombay) before heading to Muscat, Oman, and Aqaba, Jordan. It’s here that passengers will have the chance to visit the sandstone cliffs of Petra, an opportunity not to be missed.

After crossing the Suez Canal, the Amsterdam will make nine stops throughout Greece (Rhodes and Mykonos), Turkey (Istanbul), Malta, Spain (Palma de Mallorca and Cadiz with an overnight in Barcelona), Morocco (Casablanca) and Portugal (Funchal).

The journey winds down with seven relaxing days at sea as the ship heads back to Ft. Lauderdale for its final stop.

Passengers who wish to take part in the Grand World Voyage but who have time constraints are able to choose from 10 segments ranging in length from 17 to 56 days.
