Unionpay Chip Cards Are Accepted at All the Dfs Group Stores in the United States

UnionPay International announced today that UnionPay chip cards are accepted at all the DFS Group stores in the United States. DFS Group thus becomes the first large merchant that has completed UnionPay chip migration in the US. This means that cardholders visiting the US in the upcoming National Day Holiday are able to pay with UnionPay chip cards at the local DFS stores to enjoy safer and easier payment service.

In the United States, almost all the ATMs accept UnionPay cards for cash withdrawal and more than 80% of the local merchants accept UnionPay credit cards. In popular travel destinations such as New York, Hawaii, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Orlando and Chicago, UnionPay’s acceptance coverage in major shopping districts and Outlets is over 90%.

No PIN is required when paying with UnionPay credit cards in the US; cardholders only need to sign their names. UnionPay debit cards are accepted at merchants with PIN pads. The UnionPay credit cards issued by most of the national and regional banks in mainland China support no-PIN payment. Cardholders may also contact the issuer to cancel the PIN before leaving for the US.

It is particularly recommended to carry a UnionPay composite card (with a chip on the face and a magnetic stripe on the back) when traveling to the US, since the US payment industry started massive chip migration at the end of 2015, and some of the local merchants are not able to accept chip cards for now. Discover, a direct banking and payments services company, is supporting the new UnionPay EMV credit acceptance and PULSE, a Discover company and leading debit/ATM network, is supporting UnionPay EMV acceptance at point-of-sale terminals and ATMs.
