On Monday, December 18 at the Academic Halls of the Mikhailovsky Palace new free augmented reality application for smart phones was presented. It was developed by Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and called Artefact.
At a meeting with museum workers of St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region representatives of the State Russian Museum demonstrated abilities of an AR-guide. Smartphone can recognize an object and display information about exhibit with a help of camera. You can already use Artefact at the permanent exposition of the Russian Museum, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, the Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve and many other museums of the country.
About 40 exhibits of the Russian Museum collection are already available for its visitors. Such paintings as "The Last Day of Pompeii" by K. Bryullov, "The Brass Dragon" by F. Bruni, "The Ninth Val" by I. Aivazovsky, "Taking the Snowy Town" by V.Surikov, "Vladimir and Rogneda" by A.Losenko and others are just a few of them.
"Works of ancient Russian painting from the permanent exposition of the Russian Museum will be available in the Artefact application in the near future, as well as small virtual exhibitions for temporary museum exhibitions. This will allow to get information in a simple and convenient form. Visitors will be able to test an application not only at the permanent exhibition but also at the nearest exhibitions of the Russian Museum "Henryk Semiradsky and the colony of Russian artists" and "Folk Art of the Nizhny Novgorod Region", reported in museum press service.
Representatives of the State Russian Museum expressed their willingness to share gained experience in setting up and using the application with colleagues from the museums of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.
