The future of ‘new mobility’ will be centered around IoT technology said Mobike CTO and co-founder, Joe Xia at Mobile World Congress today at a speech in Barcelona, Spain.
Speaking to the world’s leading companies and technology executives, Joe shared Mobike’s vision for changing cities by overcoming the global modern challenges of urban mobility, which include congestion and pollution.
Mr. Xia said:
“At Mobike we have the world’s leading mobile IoT platform, and we’re focused on making a positive impact on city planning, the environment, and access to education and employment by delivering a seamless user experience to Mobikers around the world.”
Today, Mobike operates one of the world’s largest IoT networks with over 9 million IoT-connected devices. In China, for example, Mobike is the largest IoT partner for China Mobile in the sharing economy. In addition, Mobike is at the forefront of developing NarrowBand IoT (NBIoT) capabilities. NB-IoT helps power smaller, low-powered devices wirelessly connecting to data platforms.
However, Joe issued a call for more collaboration and partnership to unify IoT standards and platforms. He said:
“Although we have come very far, very quickly, there is still a huge opportunity to create unified IoT platforms with standard technologies to connect different transportation tools. By unifying data platforms and converging data, we can improve the user experience and operational efficiency of transportation networks across urban areas.”
Joe also emphasized the need to think broadly about the long-term impacts of new mobility, inviting technology innovators, industry associations and regulators to partner with Mobike to change cities for the better.
Joe Xia's interview with Mobile World Live
He said:
“We are continually asking ourselves how will cities and society evolve, what else can we achieve by expanding our IoT model, and what can be done to speed up the transition to the era of new mobility?”
Joe concluded:
“The growth of Mobike has been unprecedented, and only achievable through mobile technology. But, we’re only getting started. No other global platform offers our partners the opportunity to innovate at such scale and speed – that’s why we’re here at Mobile World Congress meeting and talking to some of the brightest, and most capable people in the world.”
