UnionPay International announced today that, from now on, Chinese citizens are able to use UnionPay to pay visa fees at the Belarus Embassy in Beijing, China. In this way, tourists to Belarus can enjoy more convenient payment service.
The Republic of Belarus is among the first countries to have embraced the Belt and Road Initiative. Over the past few years, China and Belarus have continued to strengthen bilateral collaboration in trade, finance and tourism, etc. In answering to this trend, UnionPay International is expediting its business expansion in Belarus. To date, Gazprombank in Belarus has enabled all of its ATMs and merchants to accept UnionPay cards. Belarusbank, the largest commercial bank in the country, are enabling all of its POS terminals to accept UnionPay. Once completed, the local UnionPay acceptance coverage at POS terminals will exceed 40%, and more than 20,000 POS terminals will accept UnionPay mobile QuickPass.
This year is decided as “China-Belarus Tourism Year”, and to offer more support to the two countries’ collaboration in improving people’s livelihood, especially in providing smoother visa application services, UnionPay launches diverse payment services in Belarus Embassy in Beijing. Since today, UnionPay cardholders are able to pay visa fees by tapping UnionPay chip cards or QuickPass-enabled mobile phones at the POS terminals in the Embassy, or by UnionPay QR code payment via the “UnionPay” app. This is a significant measure taken by UnionPay to support the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative through finance inclusion.
With the continual improvement of UnionPay’s acceptance environment in Belarus, UnionPay International is enlarging its card issuance scope in the country, to provide better service to the economic and trade cooperation and personnel exchange between China and Belarus. To date, Sberbank has issued the first UnionPay card in Belarus, and UnionPay International is collaborating with Belkart, the local switching network, to jointly promote card issuance.
