【Introduction】:Mayor Walsh, The Boston Area Church League, the Boston Red Sox, and the GBCVB are joining forces in support of the Boston Historical Black College Legacy Weekend celebration
Mayor Marty Walsh, The Boston Area Church League, the Boston Red Sox, and the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau (GBCVB) are joining forces in support of the Boston Historical Black College Legacy Weekend celebration.
There are five events over four days, including three baseball games featuring the Florida A&M Rattlers against the North Carolina Central University Eagles (NCCU). The first two games occur as part of the Historical Black College Doubleheader Baseball Game at Jim Rice Field in Roxbury on April 24th. This marks the first time that an official conference standing Historical Black College Baseball Game has been played in a Boston City Park. At 10:30am there will be a pre-game ceremony with students from Boston Public Schools singing the National Anthem and the Color Guard from Boston Public Schools will be performing alongside the Suffolk County Sheriff Honor Guard.
The signature event of the weekend is the Boston Red Sox Fenway Park Open House on April 25th. Gates open at 10:00am and the event is free to the public. Families are encouraged to attend. The Fenway Park Open House will include a college fair on the EMC Level, career and job fairs on the Pavilion Level, and a showcase game between NCCU and Florida A&M.
The GBCVB is proud to join with Mayor Walsh's Office of Tourism, Sports, and Entertainment and the Boston Parks & Recreation Department for this historic weekend. Community organizations make the events possible, including the YMCA, the Roberto Clemente 21 Sports League, the Rex Sox Foundation, Red Sox RBI Girls Softball Program, the Red Sox Baseball Program, the Eliot Congregational Church, and Greater Grove Hall Main Streets.
