Travel PR and marketing agency Lotus has been appointed to promote travel to the Ecuadorian capital Quito in the United Kingdom.

Lotus will be working in alliance with Newlink Group, an internationally recognised consulting firm, to execute an integrated communications and marketing programme in the UK market.

Quito, the first city to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of Latin America’s bourgeoning metropolises.

The city melds a combination of old and new, offering travellers tangible and intangible heritage and a growing gastronomic and art scene, while surrounded by the Andes mountains and nearby cloud forests.

Managing director at Lotus, Rebecca Wilson, said: “Lotus is delighted to be appointed by Quito Tourism.

“With tourism to Latin America on the rise, it is an exciting time to be joining the Quito Tourism team.

“We are looking forward to promoting Quito and helping raise awareness of the city to UK travellers.”

PR activity will include generating awareness and promoting Quito through a number of initiatives including media relations to communicate key tourism news with the aim of generating positive coverage for Quito.

Lotus will also participate in trade shows such as WTM and Experience Latin America to elevate Quito Tourism’s profile, as well as build industry relations through training seminars.

With increasing flight options to and around Latin America and Ecuador as well as the growing tourism infrastructure, now is an exciting time to be working with the region.

Gabriela Sommerfeld, director for Quito Tourism said: “We are very pleased and delighted to begin this tenure with such a respectable firm.

“Lotus has demonstrated an impressive track record and a thorough understanding of the elements of our tourism campaign that will take Quito to the next level.”

The account will be run by managing director Rebecca Wilson and account executive Lucy Keenan.
