Latest official Figures show that they were more visitors in London where tourist spent £36.4 billion compared to Scotland, Wales and South west England combined. London is the place most preferred and the Capital fetches £140 billion building a strong tourism economy.
In 2013, the year of the London Olympics and the city saw a huge boost in its profile due to the global event. They show that £18.8 billion was spent in inner London and £17.6 billion in outer London. The next most important regions for tourist spending were Scotland with £12.4 billion and Surrey, east and west Sussex with £8.8 billion.
MasterCard’s global city index continues to show London as breaking records numbers of foreign visitation for the last two consecutive years. Day visits in London are more popular than the rest of the Britain with £9.6 billion out of a total of £54 billion.
But overnight stays were less popular in London with only £2.9 billion of spending. South West recorded higher numbers which has come to be recognised as the country’s playground with spending of £4.3 billion a somewhat equal figure to Scotland. Popular tourist destinations for Britain are Wales, South West and London which have recorded tourism spending figures move between 4.9 % and 4.5 % and 4.3 % respectively.
