According to numbers fromVisitBritain, the country is seeing huge growth in its tourism numbers this year from some of its most important markets including the United States.
The U.S. is Britain’s most important and valuable visitor market for a number of reasons, and the period of time from January-March 2016 has shown a nine percent increase year-over-year.
Visitors from America were not alone. They were joined by large increases in tourism from Spain, Germany, Australia, China and the United Arab Emirates. Spending from visitors in many of those markets was also up by large amounts.
Overall, British tourism set a record for total inbound visits.
VisitBritain’s Director Patricia Yates said of the growth:
“It’s really encouraging to see strong growth in visits from some of our most important markets and we now have the opportunity to build on this as Britain is offering great value for inbound visitors.
“We are anticipating a strong summer holiday season as we spread this message of value and continue our global #OMGB ‘Home of Amazing Moments’ marketing campaign to inspire visitors with the amazing experiences they can only find in Britain and work with partners to offer great tactical deals to drive bookings. It’s a great summer to come to Britain.”
While many have been focused on Britain’s tourism since the Brexit referendum, these numbers appear independently strong from that vote and could improve even further as foreign travelers head to Britain’s shores both for sightseeing and shopping.
VisitBritain and VisitEngland are part of the national tourism agency which is funded by the Department for Culture, Media & Sport. Numbers were provided by the Office of National Statistics.
