Cairo Hopes for Hotel Rebound

According to a report in The National, the room count will be up 9 percent by 2018 to 17,114, more than 2,500 more rooms than in 2015. Hotel openings and expansions are set to increase Egypt’s hotel room count in the capital. According to a report in The National, the room count will be up 9 percent by 2018 to 17,114, more than 2,500 more rooms than in 2015.

"Primarily catering to corporate demand, Cairo has not been deeply affected by political and security issues in the Red Sea," said Filippo Sona, the head of hotels for the Middle East and North Africa region at Colliers. "The growth in Arabian Gulf and domestic leisure and corporate travelers in the last year is contributing [significantly]."

There is cautious optimism about Cairo’s visitor growth.

“Investors should have a long-term view in mind and build assets which are able to target the domestic and regional leisure markets, as existing properties in the city are mainly focused on international travellers," according to the Colliers report.
