Sanya has established a new official relationship with a foreign city. The new “Friendly City” agreement was signed between Uganda’s Mbarara Municipality and Sanya City on November 27th, 2017 in Mbarara.
The deal makes Uganda’s Mbarara City Sanya’s 14th international “friendship city.”
The agreement was signed by Mbarara Mayor Robert Kakyebezi and the Vice Director of the Standing Committee of the Sanya Municipal People’s Congress, Mr. Zhang Yufei, who led the Sanya delegation.
The two city leaders have been interacting since 2016. A letter of intent on establishing a friendly city relationship was signed in July 2016. Later in October, Charles Madibo Wagidoso, Ambassador of Uganda to China, together with the mayor of Mbarara, led a delegation to visit Sanya and signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the two cities.
The new friendly city agreement aims at promoting friendly contacts and economic exchange between the two cities in tourism, agriculture, trade, infrastructure, culture, education, and other economic areas.
