Busan Cinema Center to Go Green for St. Patrick’s Day

Busan’s landmark cinema will turn green for two hours on March 13 and March 17, starting at 7:00 p.m. The Busan Cinema Center is part of the annual “Global Greening” event hosted by the Embassy of Ireland in Korea that will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day which falls on Saturday, March 17 this year.

The annual “Global Greening” event is Tourism Ireland’s unique global campaign to see a host of major landmarks around the world turn green for St Patrick’s Day. The campaign has grown stronger and stronger each year, with lots of new landmarks signing up to take part this year.

Gwangandaegyo Bridge joined the event for the first time in 2017 and was subsequently promoted worldwide as Busan’s premier landmark.

This year, about 42,000 LED lights on the ‘Big Roof’ and ‘Small Roof’ of the Busan Cinema Center will be lit up with green colors. The Busan Cinema Center’s ‘Big Roof’ is the longest cantilever roof in the world and is certified by the Guinness Book of World Records.

The Busan Cinema Center is the official venue for the Busan International Film Festival, one of the most significant film festivals in Asia, since its opening in 2011 and is also famous for its artistic architectural design.
