Sanya, the tropical seaside tourist resort city in China’s southernmost Hainan Province, has formed a strategic cooperative agreement with Xiamen in which the two cities have committed to jointly develop overseas tourism markets. Xiamen is a popular seaside tourist city in China’s southeastern Fujian Province, which shares a close link to Taiwan. The two cities signed a framework cooperation agreement at the 14th Strait Travel Fair, which is being held at the Xiamen International Convention and Exhibition Center from April 20th to 22nd, 2018.
This marks the official start of a strategic cooperative relationship on tourism development between the two tourist destinations.
This year’s Strait Travel Fair features more than 50,000 square meters of exhibition space with 2,200 booths. Forty-three countries and regions around the world have sent tourism delegations to the fair, including 23 Chinese provinces and autonomous regions.
Sanya, the fair’s first guest city of honor, has made great strides in developing and expanding overseas tourism markets in recent years. The city’s superior tourism environment, a series of overseas promotional campaigns held by tourism authorities, and special subsidy policies for the opening of international flights have brought in an increasing number of overseas tourist arrivals. The city has become one of the most popular destinations for tourists from Russia and other Russian-speaking countries.
Famed for scenery, business, and cross-Straits culture, Xiamen attracts both tourists and business people from around the world with its charm and investment environment. With the easing of entry and exit restrictions and improving transport services, Xiamen has become a fast and convenient gateway to Taiwan. It is a reputed hometown for overseas Chinese. The city has also seen an increasing number of tourist arrivals from Hong Kong, Macau, and Southeast Asian countries after years of development on its tourism industry.
According to the agreement, the two cities will work together in expanding their overseas tourism markets and sharing a base of travelers from Russia, Southeast Asia, and Taiwan in the near future. The cities expect to solidify a win-win deal by jointly promoting the construction of international tourism cities and by enhancing their city images and appeal on the international stage.
