Wellingtonians will have enhanced connections with the world since Singapore Airlines began its new Wellington-Melbourne-Singapore route last week, says WREDA’s Venues, Marketing and Destination Development General Manager David Perks.
“Having a stop-off in Melbourne, a city already well-regarded by Wellingtonians, will provide even more opportunities for growth in the tourism and business sectors there, but the key for Wellington is the continued airlink with Singapore. Changi Airport is one of the most connected air hubs in the world enabling Wellingtonians to travel on to other destinations more easily and global travellers to connect to Wellington with fewer stops.
“The link with Singapore, via Canberra, has already proved its worth to the Wellington regional economy with the number of Singaporean travellers alone into Wellington more than doubling since the service began. WREDA expects that to develop further with the more streamlined route via Melbourne due to better flight scheduling.
“WREDA will continue to promote tourism to Wellington via the service from Australia and other target international markets, alongside Singapore Airlines and Wellington International Airport,” Mr Perks says.
