A Sanya delegation comprised of representatives from the Sanya International Airport attended the 24th World Route Development Forum 2018 on September 16th, with the aim of attracting highly desired new flight routes and increasing the frequency of flights between Sanya and other international destinations.
The annual event, which this year was held in Guangzhou, is an opportunity for stakeholders at the Sanya gateway to meet with airlines to determine the need for future new air services. The event is also an ideal platform for highlighting the Sanya International Airport’s fantastic annual traffic growth.
At the meeting, a joint letter of intent was signed between the Sanya Airport and Ukraine International Airlines to further expand Sanya’s air route network by resuming international direct flights connecting Sanya and Kiev for the upcoming 2018/19 winter and spring season.
In addition, a “sister airport” Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between Sanya Airport and Vladivostok Airport. The agreement stated the two parties’ intention to increase the frequency of flights between the two regions and conduct more cooperation and exchange in the fields of airport construction and operation.
During the forum proceedings, representatives from Novosibirsk Tolmachevo Airport came to talk with Sanya delegates to discuss the possibility of increasing the frequency of flights to Sanya.
Sanya now has international air routes connecting 16 Russian-speaking destinations including Moscow, Vladivostok, Habarovsk, Irkutsk, New Siberia, Krasno, Ulanwood, Yekaterinburg, Bragoveschensk, Chita, New Kuznik, Kemerovo, Barnauer, Tomsk, Astana and Almaty.
During the event, All Nippon Airways from Japan approached the Sanya representatives wishing to work closer and to form a better relationship. They expressed interest in Sanya’s potential unique travel products, and the city’s mix of natural scenery, traditional culture, and various entertainment facilities.
Sanya Airport has worked to meet with airline representatives in the Southeast Asian region to discuss medium-to-long-haul routes, aiming to diversify the types of carriers and connections between Sanya and Southeast Asia destination in locations aside from well-served markets such as Singapore, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Pattaya, Jakarta, Surabaya, and Johor Bahru.
