A delegation consisting of local charter flight operators from Sanya, representatives from the Sanya Phoenix International Airport and airline companies attended the Routes Asia 2019 in Cebu, Philippines from March 10th to 12th, 2019.
During the three-day event, a Sanya tourism promo event was held to provide a platform between Sanya’s local charter flight operators and international airline companies to discuss opening of new air routes to boost the number of international tourists visiting Sanya. The Sanya delegates took part in a face-to-face meeting with representatives from airline companies and airports in the Asia-Pacific region, including Jetstar Airways, Philippine Airlines, JC (Cambodia) International Airlines, Thai AirAsia, Jeju Air, Narita International Airport and New Chitose Airport to discuss new and existing air services.
The Bureau of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television, and Sports of Sanya took creative marketing method by showcasing the logo of Sanya in the event lunch venue, on invitation letters, menus, and brochures for attending delegates, and on the official website of the Routes Asia 2019.
Ding Hang, Vice President of the Sanya Phoenix International Airport said during the face to face meeting that the airport received its 20 millionth passenger on December 31st, 2018. It was the first time that the airport’s annual passenger throughput exceeded 20 million. The high figures signaled a new golden period in the airport’s development. The Routes Asia 2019 is a great opportunity for the airport to deepen exchanges and cooperation with airports and airlines in the Asia-Pacific region, and to attract more international airline companies to open air routes to Sanya.
In 2018, Sanya opened new air routes connecting to 15 countries and regions. Among them, there are 6 direct air routes connecting to Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam and Cambodia. Sanya was named on a list of national logistics hubs in a planning document issued by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Transport on December 21st, 2018. Sanya was chosen for its strategically-located airport. It will provide fast and efficient express services for international and domestic logistics, transfers and cargo distribution.
