On May 23, 2018, the “Standardization and Certification in Sustainable Tourism Sector” Seminar was held at the Marco Polo Parkside Hotel, Beijing. The seminar was jointly held by Australian EarthCheck, World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF), Beijing Tourism Industrial Association, and China Standard Conformity Assessment Co., Ltd. (Related organization of WTCF’s “Brand Evaluation in Promoting Sustainable Tourism” project collaboration).
In total, 70 participants attended the seminar, with more than 30 experts from Australia, France, and other countries. Also present were experts and scholars from the Certification and Accreditation Administration of the People’s Republic of China (CNCA), World Wide Fund for Nature or World Wildlife Fund (WWF), China’s national-level tourist attractions, and renowned Chinese domestic and international hotels, meeting centers, and memorials.
The seminar discussed the method of how to integrate the concept of sustainable development into the tourism operation and management through the analyzation of current development of the global sustainable tourism industry, the direction of China tourism industry by using the standardized and certified technical means to accelerate the extension and application of sustainable tourism standards and certification system in China by the experience sharing of the leading practitioners involving in the sustainable tourism industry.
Mr. Liu Changzhou, Deputy Director of Accreditation Department of Certification and Accreditation Administration of the People’s Republic of China, shared his opinion on the standardization and certification in sustainable tourism and domestic and foreign case studies. Mr. Li Baochun, Executive Deputy Secretary-General of WTCF, delivered a keynote speech with the theme of “Dynamic Analysis on Tourism Industrial Development”. He also interpreted relevant policies in the Chinese tourism industry.
During the seminar, presenters from EarthCheck and CSCA, the organizers of the seminar, also introduced “Worldwide Achievement of Certification in Sustainable Tourism”, “Best Practice and Case Studies”, “Certification Standards Overview” and “Exploring and Practice in the field of Sustainable Tourism in China” through their presentations. At last, the seminar invited experts to share best practice and case studies of the experience in certification in sustainable tourism like Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang.
