Quantifying Tourism in City Destinations: Towards a Global Database of Urban Tourism to Be Released Soon

Themed "New Trend · New Business Format · New Consumption: Jointly Creating the New Prosperity of Culture & Tourism", the World Conference on Tourism Cooperation and Development 2023 co-hosted by the World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF) and the People's Government of Beijing Municipality will be held in Beijing on 2 September 2023. During the conference, WTCF and the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) will jointly release the Quantifying Tourism in City Destinations: Towards a Global Database of Urban Tourism.

The COVID-19 pandemic has dealt a severe blow to the tourism industry, with the city tourism particularly hard hit. As the global tourism industry is gradually recovering, it is imperative to understand and quantify the influence and tourist flow of city tourism, explore existing data sources and indicators, and evaluate the feasibility of establishing a global system for collecting and sharing key data.

The forthcoming Quantifying Tourism in City Destinations: Towards a Global Database of Urban Tourism aims to address the lack of unified indicators and data sources on city tourism, and to assess the size and value of the city tourism sector in the global market to ensure the sustainable and resilient development of cities.
