Kenya will be showcasing its tourism products and experiences virtually during this year's World Travel Market (WTM) that kicked off on Wednesday to drive the sector's post-COVID-19 recovery.
Jimi Kariuki, chairman of the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) said that the country's travel trade will have an opportunity to market Kenya to the world and provide an avenue for networking and discussing issues that are currently affecting tourism and travel.
"We are currently going through a global health crisis that has made it impossible to hold meetings and exhibitions especially because of the physical nature of tourism and travel. But this also provides us with an opportunity to innovate and come up with solutions to benefit the industry. The virtual space provides us with this avenue," Kariuki said in a statement issued in Nairobi.
The annual event that showcases Africa's tourism offerings is the leading business-to-business exhibition for the inbound and outbound African travel and tourism markets.
Kariuki added that Kenya has traditionally relied on international travel expos to create a link with the key tourism source markets.
"This travel mart will bring together Africa's tourism stakeholders and other international tourism players. We hope to create synergies and ensure that destination Kenya remains alive and fresh in people's minds and gain knowledge as well from other players from across the continent and beyond," he added.
