Hong Kong Airlines has always been committed in nurturing the next generation, and continues to encourage active learning even outside the classroom so as to help today’s youth widen their horizons and gain international perspectives. The highly regarded “Embrace the World” programme sees the airline fly over 1,000 students abroad to study tours every year, as well as inviting the most outstanding to join it in visiting different countries and learning more about the aviation industry.

This was exactly what eight students benefitted from during their visit to Auckland, New Zealand, which took place from 27 February to 5 March 2018. Not only were they able to experience the local Māori culture, but they were also given the chance to meet Hong Kong Airlines’ very first cadet pilots and enter the cockpit of a small aircraft as well as an aircraft simulator.

Along with a trip to the L3 Airline Academy, the New Zealand experience – sponsored by Sunflower Travel – also saw the students visit several popular attractions in Auckland, including Mount Eden, Michael Savage Memorial Park, as well as the Museum of Transport and Technology where they learnt about the development of New Zealand’s aviation industry over the years.

Other noteworthy highlights included a trip into the Waitomo Glowworm Caves; the town of Rotorua; and the Hobbiton Movie Set in Matamata. During the trip, the students were also treated to several unique experiences, including participating in the traditional Māori dance, enjoying the breathtaking beauty of Lake Taupo, and coming up close and personal with New Zealand’s very own Kiwi bird.

“I am delighted that the ‘Embrace the World’ student sponsorship programme continues to give outstanding students the chance to visit different countries in order to experience new customs and cultures,” said Mr George Liu, Chief Marketing Officer of Hong Kong Airlines.

“I hope that the eight students enjoyed their trip to New Zealand, and gained new appreciation for the aviation industry following their visit to the flight training school. With a growing international network that covers nearly 40 major destinations, including our upcoming service to San Francisco on 25 March, Hong Kong Airlines is looking forward to leading students further around the world.”
