American Airlines will make its mobile health passport service available to all customers entering the U.S. beginning Jan. 23.

The carrier's expanded rollout of the mobile Verifly health passport solution is timed to ease travel once all people entering the U.S. by plane are required to show proof of a negative Covid-19 test beginning Jan. 26.

American is the first of the three global U.S. carriers to announce that it will offer a digital health passport option for all of its incoming U.S. flyers.

To use the service, American customers will download the Verifly app on their phones, create an account, enter their destination and then upload proof of a negative Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours of departure.

The app, which is developed by the identity authentication solutions provider Daon, then verifies whether a customer's data matches the requirements for the flight and displays a pass or fail message. American customers who display the "pass" message from Verifly will have a streamlined document-check process at the departure airport.

The app also provides travelers with reminders of when the window for travel from their uploaded test is coming to a close.

American first deployed the Verifly app for departures to select international destinations from the U.S. in November.

The airline's customers can currently use Verifly for departures to Jamaica, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.
