If you’re in Malaysia you can literally shop till you drop, as yet another massive mall opened on November 24 – this time the Design Village in Penang.
The 10.1-hectare single-storey semi-open air mall, touted as “the first and only premier outlet mall in Penang and the northern region”, is strategically located near the landing point of the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge (Penang second bridge) at Batu Kawan.
Built by PE Land (Penang) it features 150 stores, which are built on about 3,710 hectare within a tropical garden.
According to James Ling, PE Land (Penang) managing director, this is a one-of-a-kind green village and was completed in just two years.
The stores offer luxury fashion labels, premium and high street brands, kids, sports as well as F&B outlets and cafés.
There is also a host of perks to attract shoppers – from 2,500 parking bays to rest and children’s play areas, safety wristlet for young shoppers, safety escorts for female shoppers, and free shuttle bus from Gurney Drive and Komtar to the outlet mall.
Ling added that Design Village would be a major tourist attraction for Penang, as well as “the catalyst to stimulate economic activity at Bandar Cassia (Cassia township) in Batu Kawan.”
