As one of the state 4A-level scenic attractions in Kunming, Kunming World Horticultural Expo Garden is located in the northeast suburb of Kunming and adjacent to the Golden Palace Park. The Garden is the former site of "China-Kunming World Horticultural Exposition 99'" covering approximately 218 hectares. The garden vastly incorporates those garden masterpieces from from 95 participating countries and regions in the world and builds on the theme, “Man and Nature, Marching into the 21st Century.” It is a grand park for horticulture featuring Yunnan Characteristics, Chinese style.

In the Garden you can find five exhibition halls, namely the International Hall, the China Hall, the Man and Nature Hall, the Science and Technology Hall, and the Green House. There are also seven theme gardens, namely the Arbor Garden, the Bamboo Garden, the Bonsai Garden, the Medicinal Herbals Garden, the Tea Garden, the Vegetables Garden, and the Celebrated Flowers and Rocks Garden. Three outdoor exhibition areas include the International Outdoor Exhibition area, the (China) Domestic Outdoor Exhibition area and the Enterprises Exhibition area. There are over 2 million plants and 2,551 species in the garden. This abundant environment made Kunming Horticultural Exposition the best of its kind in 1999. The garden has also established world records in coverage, construction speed, flora species, garden masterpieces, green houses, bamboo species, transplanted Cupressaceae (cypress), and precipice model.

Every day special shows like float (festooned vehicles), Cinerama and other programs are on display in the garden. During holidays and festivals there are more themed activities.

Travel tips

(1)Traffic: You can join in tours organized by travel services; take a taxi, or public bus No. 69, 71, 10, A1. The garden is quite vast and walking may exhaust you so renting a tour cart is an option.

(2)Nearby: The Golden Palace Park, Shibo Bird & Flower Market, Yunnan Wildlife Park.

(3)Accommodation: Major hotels and hostels and restaurants in downtown.

(4)Shopping: Assorted souvenirs both domestic and overseas are available for purchase.
