The Torch Festival is an annual tradition for several of Yunnan province’s ethnic , such as Yi, Bai, and Naxi. It originates from a people’s pray for good harvests ceremony. It is held every Lunar June 24 and lasts for three days. The most recent one is the Lunan Torch Festival in Shilin, Kunming . People from the Yi minority will get together and participate in wrestling and ox fighting competitions. Also, bonfire party will be held in the evening, where dancing and singing can last for the whole night. In recent years, it has developed into a large government-organized commercial event providing both traditional amusement and economic exchanges.
