Though Sinan Road is small and narrow, its charm is more brilliant than most of the roads in Shanghai. The name Sinan carries a sense of romance in Chinese.

It was nominated as a road for lovers to get together, along with Yuqing Road and Hengshan Road by Shun Pao in the past. Sinan Road starts from Middle Huaihai Road in the north and ends at Taikang Road.

Since it was located in the French concession in the past and was influenced by the romantic French style, the road is fully covered with chinars. When summer comes, it becomes a green corridor with thick leaves and a cooling wind breeze. Walking on it gently and slowly while a tiny amount of sunshine breaks through, you will feel as if you were in a fairy tale. Intersecting Huaihai Road, Sinan Road is historically rich and colorful and is a famous sightseeing destination for visitors.

The Shanghai Institute of Culture and History lies at the Residence of General Zhou Enlai. Located at No. 73 Sinan Road. The Residence of General Zhou Enlai is a garden villa with a deep French architectural style.

There is a famous French country house lane along the road; the surroundings of the house are not narrow Shanghai Gatehouses but rather old villas of which are big and grand. In the 1920s and 1930s, the authorities planned to establish a uniform "Paris of the East" area in the center of the French concession. The "Rue Massene" was the best site at that time. La Concession Française approved the decision quickly. A Far East credit agency in Brussels, Belgium, contributed to the construction of most of the villas.

The French-style villas and gardens create a special atmosphere in the downtown area of Shanghai.
