Red House Left behind by the Netherlanders

The Red House, left behind by the Netherlanders, was constructed in 1650. The building features thick brick walls, bulky hard wood doors, and broad stone steps, which are eye-catching but alien in Southeast Asia. It had been used as a building for one of the governmental institutes until 1980, when it changed its name to Christ Church Melaka. The building houses six museums and displays historical relics from Malaysia, Portugal, the Netherlands, and the UK. Among them is a special museum, which collects the cultural relics of the Malacca Sultanate. Visiting this museum can help you have a more profound understanding of Malacca’s royal families, currencies, navigation, marriage traditions and so on.

St. Paul's Church

St. Paul's Church was built by a Portuguese general in 1521 and is located at the summit of St. Paul's Hill. Things you need to take notice of are those ancient stone tablets and the statues without hands which are supposed to be Portuguese missionaries standing in front of the church. The hill is not high. Hiking to the top of it can give you a good view of the Strait of Malacca. When the sun set, the scenery will be even more stunning.

Jonker Street

Jonker Street is an area where overseas Chinese people live, and it has experienced 300 years of history. It is also a street of delicacies, for lots of Malacca delicacies originate from this street. Walking along the street, you can encounter all styles of old buildings, somewhat like the past Hong Kong. Many of the shops on the street sell souvenirs. From Friday to Sunday, the street will be occupied by a night market.

Pantai Klebang

Pantai Klebang is in fact a beach in Malacca. Just like any other beach in the world you can ride horses, fly kites, enjoy the caress of the breeze, or enjoy sunsets. This beach covers all these functions and is now the most popular scenic spot in Malacca.

Melaka Straits Mosque

The Melaka Straits Mosque is located on the man-made Malacca Island. If the water level rises, the island will be like a building floating on the water. The mosque looks gorgeous when the sun sets. Listening to the murmurs of practitioners reciting the Quran from the broadcasting station and voices of the waves of the sea, you will feel like walking into the paradise, and your body and soul will all return to peace.
