Manifesta is a European art biennial that guests in a different location every two years. In 2016, this European biennial of contemporary art will be held in Zurich.

In 2016, Zurich will be hosting the 11th edition of Manifesta over a period of 100 days. The biennial examines the cultural topography of Europe and implements it in an artistic manner.

Under the leadership of chief curator, Christian Jankowski – himself a video and concept artist from Berlin –, Manifesta 11 takes up the theme of “What People Do For Money: Some Joint Ventures”. Various artists address this question and elaborate on it in an artistic way.

The resulting videos will be screened on a floating stage on Lake Zurich, which has been specially constructed for the event. During the day, this Pavilion of Reflections serves as an outdoor bathing facility, while in the evenings, it is transformed into a place to reflect on the various works of art.

However, Manifesta 11 cannot only be found on Lake Zurich: the Migros Museum of Contemporary Art, Kunsthalle Zürich,Helmhaus Zürich and Cabaret Voltaire will also function as principal exhibition venues.

Manifesta Meets Dada

In 2016, Zurich celebrates Dada’s centenary. The entire city will pay homage to this art movement, which was founded in 1916 in the heart of Zurich’s Old Town and rapidly spread through Europe and as far as New York. Manifesta 11 will also be devoting itself to the Dadaists. Art aficionados can look forward to summer 2006 with bated breath. www.zuerich.com/dada
