Morocco’s tourism sector achieved a strong performance last year with the arrival of more than 12 million tourists, according to Morocco’s National Tourism Office (ONMT).
Some 12.3 million tourists visited Morocco in 2018, an increase of 8.5% over the previous year, said Adil El Fakir, Director General of ONMT
“Between 2000 and 2018, the sector achieved an annual growth of 6% in terms of arrivals, which represents 2 points more than the global growth of the sector, thus placing Morocco in 1st African destination and 30th in the world,” said Fakir.
He said that these achievements were largely the result of the promotion and marketing of the ‘Morocco’ destination besides national multisectoral strategies that have enabled the development of road, airport and rail infrastructures and the arrival of major international hotel brands such as AccorHotels, Hilton and Louvre Hotels that have increased the attractiveness of the destination Morocco.
“Our offer is exceptional! It includes many aspects of culture, history, gastronomy, handicrafts ... Morocco has more than 8000 historical monuments and more than 30 medinas. These are major achievements," said Fakir.
The Office aims to capitalize on the assets it has through the focus on digital to be more competitive and face regional and global competition in order to sustain this upward trend.
