Every year, since 1903, the Salon d'Automne has been held in Paris. After the Petit Palais, this art exhibition, created by the Belgian Frantz Jourdain, now takes place at the Grand Palais on the Champs-Elysées. It was first designed to offer opportunities to young artists and to bring the Impressionist movement to a wider audience. Why autumn? Because this allowed French and foreign artists to paint small scale works outdoors in the summer and then show them at this exhibition. Today, all the arts are represented: paintings, sculptures, photographs, prints, drawings, books on artists, and the applied arts. In 2014, Salon d'Automne hosted 850 artists from 43 countries.
