Hong Kong Airlines (the “Company”) is always committed to high safety standards to provide safe travel experience for passengers. At the award ceremony of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) 2016/17 Airport Safety Recognition Scheme, Hong Kong Airlines was presented the “Corporate Safety Performance Award” in the corporate category. Five staff including three from Hong Kong Aviation Ground Services Limited (HAGSL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Company, won individual awards. Captain Ruben Morales, General Manager, Corporate Safety of Hong Kong Airlines, attended the ceremony to receive the awards.
The Airport Safety Recognition Scheme is held annually by HKIA to recognize the airport community members and frontline staff who demonstrated exemplary safety performance during the past year.
Debbie Chung, Manager, Corporate Safety (Ground, Cargo, OHS), and John Wong, Officer, Corporate Safety (Ground, Cargo, OHS) of Hong Kong Airlines, won the “Good Safety Suggestion” award in recognition of their suggestion to reinforce ground safety inspection at night time, which effectively prevents aircraft damage related to cargo loading/unloading. Three staff from HAGSL, including Yo To, Supervisor, Quality, Safety and Security, and Mathew Cheung, Edward Tam, both being Supervisor I, Services Control & Dispatch, won in the same individual category. Their suggestions in regard to door signage of Midfield Concourse of HKIA and crew bus safety all showed strong commitment in maintaining and improving behavioral safety, enhancing effectiveness in protecting passengers and staff.
Captain Ruben Morales said, “High safety standards safeguard the airline’s every passenger on every flight. It is the cornerstone of every step of the Company as it has been developing fast to become an international airline. Hong Kong Airlines provided numerous initiatives to staff in safety training, safety inspections, and safety promotion. As a result, the number of incidents and work injuries have decreased over the years. We are glad that by winning the awards again this year, the Company has been recognized at Airport Safety Recognition Scheme three years in a row.”
According to recent data released by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for the 2016 safety performance of the commercial airline industry, North Asia including Hong Kong has outperformed every region of the world with zero Jet Hull Loss Rate on the five years average of 2011-2015, and again in 2016 ranked as the safest region for Commercial Jet Operators for six consecutive years.
“This shows the commitment of both Civil Aviation Authorities and airlines. And Hong Kong Airlines is of course a contributor to such achievement. We will remain vigilant and fully support continuous enhancement in safety to ensure that safety is always the first priority in the operation of our business.” Ruben added.
Hong Kong Airlines is an International Air Transport Association (IATA) member, and has been certified by IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA).
