Macao's gaming industry is seeking transformation, by increasing the non-gaming elements, in order to attract more family tourists. According to reports, Galaxy Entertainment chairman Lui Che woo said, the future two stages of "Macau Galaxy" plan to build a theme park, which will join the "special and high-tech” elements, like in the science fiction movie “Avatar”.
Lui said the projects with 86 billion yuan of investment, will build some special, high-tech things including something similar to that of movie "Avatar" in the next two stages, site investigation is expected to commence this year. He said, “compared with the larger theme parks, such as the Shanghai Disney Park costing $5.5 billion (opening in June), our park will be smaller, but very unique. Now you can see that all of these theme parks have different special ideas, so we are thinking about how to compete with them ."
