As you wander the streets of Sanya you may have noticed a bike with a unique mental frame and bright orange wheels. At the end of this September, Mobike, one of China’s largest bike-sharing companies, brought its bike-sharing services in Sanya. The service started with 2,000 public bikes in the city.
The public bikes are easy to rent and return: Users can scan the QR code located between the handlebars → pay refundable deposit (RMB299) → complete real name confirmation → unlock the bike allowing you to ride it. From here the bike costs RMB1 for every 30 minutes of use regardless of how far you go. When users are done riding just park it anywhere acceptable (bike spots within the white lines) and it will once again lock.
To better regulate the shared bikes that will benefit commuters, the bike-sharing company used “electronic fence” to regulate cyclists parked vehicles. Around hundreds designated locations for bike parking are set up across the city. Populous public areas include Sanya Bay Road, Jiefang Road, Jinjiling Road, Hedong Road, Hexi Road, Yingbin Road and Yuya Road.
Due to safety concerns, the rules forbid children under the age of 12 from riding shared bikes. What to read next
