St. Petersburg: Almost 8 Million People Visited City’s Museums

Results of past year and plans for the current were announced during the accountability session of the collegium of St. Petersburg Committee for Culture held on February 15, 2018 at the multimedia park "Russia-My history". According to the report of the Chairman of the Committee for Culture Konstantin Suhenko, in 2017 museums, which is subordinate to the Committee for Culture of St. Petersburg, took more than 7,8 million persons. It is 800 thousand more than a year ago. Historical multimedia complex "Russia —my History" was awarded with a special mention. Petersburgers and city’s guests are showing a great interest to the new museum. Since opening it was visited by more than 170 thousand people.

Theatres and concert organizations are remaining their high attendance rates as well. The number of spectators in 2017 exceeded 2.3 million people. Establishments and groups actively took part in the VI St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum, which was attended by a record number of participants (33.5 thousand people), were noted too.

Continuation of work on the creation of a new museum and exhibition complex "Defence and Siege of Leningrad", capital repair of State Memorial Museum of Defense and Siege of Leningrad in Salt town (Solyanoi gorodok), continuation of work on creation of a theatrical association for young the “Open stage" (Otkrytaya scena), reconstruction of the Sergey Kuryokhin Modern Art Center — all this became part of the plans list of the year 2018 priorities projects.

In addition, in 2018, St. Petersburg celebrates its 315 anniversary since the foundation of the city. On April 30 our city is honored to become the world capital of celebrating the international Jazz Day which is celebrated every year on this date. In 2018 will be implemented festive programmes for 200 birth anniversary of Marius Petipa and Ivan Turgenev.
