On March 24th local time, the China National Tourism Administration held a “Beautiful China” themed tourism promotional event in Los Angeles. Cao Pengcheng, Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development, was invited to lead a delegation to hold the Beijing tourism promotional event, and held business talks with the overseas travel businesspeople of the U.S. at the exhibition booth, and also participated in the “Beautiful China” themed tourism promotional event. Those who attended the related activities include Zhuang Zhizhe, Deputy Consul General of China in Los Angeles; Aaron Wodin-Schwartz, Vice President, Public Policy and Affairs for Brand USA; Kathry Smits, Vice-President of International Tourism at the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board, and Zhang Xilong, Inspector for CNTA Department of Tourism Promotion and International Liaison.
The “Beautiful China” Themed Tourism Promotion Event
As the capital and a historical city of China, Beijing enjoys unique historical and cultural tourism resources. The tourism industry is an important industry for Beijing to build up the “First Class International Harmonious and Livable Capital”, and also the link industry for the cooperative development of Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei. Meanwhile, Los Angeles is also an important tourist source market for Beijing outside of China. Participating in the tourism promotional event organized by the National Tourism Administration of China can help fully utilize the unique advantage of the cultural resources and diplomatic exchanges of the capital, so that more Los Angeles tourists and travel businesspeople can have a comprehensive understanding of Beijing, and figure out the tourism products of Beijing, so as to enhance the overseas marketing efficiency.
At the promotional event, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development carefully prepared Beijing tourism promotional products, travel routes, tourism images, promotional videos, and other Beijing tourism promotional materials for the attendees, and promoted Beijing tourism products to the local travel businesspeople, local citizens, and media, who attended the event. In order to promote Beijing’s tourism resources, publicize the image of Beijing tourism, and strengthen the communication between the two cities, Beijing tourism promotional pamphlets, leaflets and other promotional items were distributed. The rich, colorful tourism resource charms attracted many meeting attendees to stop by, learn about Beijing tourism, and consult with the employees. This interaction has further strengthened the will of the locals wishing to travel to Beijing to experience Beijing’s long history, rich culture, and other tourism resource charms.

At the promotional event, Deputy Director Cao Pengcheng held business talks with RITZ TOURS, U.S. branch of Spring Tour, and other U.S. overseas travel businesspeople. Deputy Director Cao Pengcheng introduced some featured tourism resources such as Beijing’s World Heritage Sites, Chinese medical health keeping, famous school tours and so on, as well as preferential policies such as visa-free transit, departure tax refund and so on. As their talks increasingly went further, the two parties reached more consensuses in terms of further deepening tourism culture exchange and cooperation and related events. The two parties expressed that they would further reinforce concrete cooperation and close communication, jointly striving to push forward the internationalized development of the Beijing inbound tourism market.
At the promotion event, Deputy Director Cao Pengcheng was also invited to draw for the lottery for the attendees on the site of the “Beautiful China” themed tourism promotional event. The lucky attendees won the prize of round trip tickets from Los Angeles to Beijing provided by the American Airlines. This activity stimulated the locals’ great interest of actively traveling to Beijing once again.

In recent years, the communication and cooperation between Beijing and the U.S. has been increasingly strengthening and thus achieved good results. Take 2017 for example, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development cooperated with Air China to launch the second global word of mouth marketing event: Imperial City Ombudsman (皇城御使) and Parker Ferris, a post-90s famous American vlogger with over 1 million cumulative views, was chosen to experience the three-day imperial family cultural tour. Also, World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF) held the Fragrant Hills Tourism Summit in Los Angeles and it was the second time that WTCF has held the summit in a city outside of China. In 2017, Beijing received 630,000 American visitors who stayed overnight. The United States has become the largest inbound tourist source nation over the past ten years for Beijing, and is also a destination that tops the list from where the tourists entered the country by utilizing the Beijing 72-Hour Visa-free Transit policy.
