156k Tourists Spent Their 2018 Labor Day Holiday in Sanya

Sanya received a total of 156,100 visitors during the three-day May Day holiday this year, up 6.94 percent year-on-year. Tourism revenue reached RMB 594 million, a year-on-year increase of 9.27 percent.

Domestic and International Tourist Arrivals

Sanya received 156,100 tourists during the three-day holiday, including 135,300 overnight tourists and 23,800 one-day visitors. The number of international tourists was 4,100, a year-on-year growth rate of 4.78 percent.

The top five source provinces or cities for domestic visitors to Sanya were Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong, Sichuan, and Chongqing. As for tourist arrivals from overseas countries and regions, the top five sources were Russia, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Kazakhstan.

Hotel Room Occupancy Rate

The hotel room occupancy rate across the city averaged 65.61 percent, a year-on-year increase of 1.41 percent (accounting for the fact that the number of hotel rooms across the city has increased 1.72 percent year-on-year).

The average hotel room rates and average hotel occupancy rates in four major bays and the downtown area:

Yalong Bay (RMB 1,296; 80.94 percent)

Haitang Bay (RMB 886; 78.19 percent)

Sanya Bay (RMB 425; 61.12 percent)

Dadonghai (RMB 462; 65.23 percent)

Downtown area (RMB 299; 59.23 percent)

Tourist Arrivals at Eight Scenic Spots

Sanya’s eight major scenic spots received 283,300 visitors during the holiday period, a year-on-year increase of 34.73 percent. Statistics for the eight spots are as follows: Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone received 49,200 visitors; Dongtian Park received 6,900 visitors; Wuzhizhou Island received 22,200 visitors; Tianya Haijiao Scenic Spot received 31,500 visitors; Yalong Bay Tropical Forest Park received 19,200 visitors; West Island received 8,700 visitors; Luhuitou Park received 10,900 visitors; and Sanya Romance Park received 134,700 visitors.

Air and Rail Passenger Throughput

During the holiday, the city handled 272,700 passengers, up 7.09 percent year on year. The Sanya Phoenix International Airport and Sanya Railway Station served as points of transit for 117,700 and 155,000 passengers, respectively.

Tourist Spending

Average per-capita consumption by overnight visitors was RMB 1,495.29 per day during the holiday, and average per-capita consumption by one-day visitors reached RMB 566.85.
