Announcing Sapporo Snow Festival’s Snow and Ice Sculptures!

Details as well as the snow and ice sculptures of the “70th Sapporo Snow Festival” held from January 31st, 2019 (Thursday) to February 11th, 2019 (Monday/Holiday) have been announced. The festival will be held at three venues in Sapporo and will feature approximately 200 sculptures.

The main Odori Site (February 4th and onwards) will feature ice sculptures representing Hatsune Miku, Star Wars characters, historic buildings of foreign countries and more. There will also be a skating rink, a massive jump ramp for skis and snowboards as well as booths where you can enjoy Hokkaido’s gourmet treats. For 2019, the event will feature the extremely popular projection mapping and also introduce for the first time, an AR (augmented reality) produced by the latest digital technology to commemorate this 70th event.

The skating rink on Odori 1 chome will open from January 31st (Thursday).

From January 31st, the Tsudome Site will feature winter fun events such as a snow slide that stretches for approximately 100 meters, snow rafting and a snow maze. Indoor facilities will include the Hokkaido Gourmet Fair, large outdoor toys, stage events and even a maccha (green tea) brewing experience!

From February 4th, the Susukino Site will introduce 60 ice sculptures as well as ice bars created with ice and snow serving drinks in ice-made cups.

From December 14th (Friday), official souvenirs including commemorative badges, tin badges, phone straps and key holders will go on sale at various locations throughout Sapporo and at the Hokkaido‐Sapporo “Food and Tourism” Information Center.

Dress warm and make sure that your shoes or boots have soles that will grip the ground so that you don’t slip when you visit the Sapporo Snow Festival!

Time: 9:00 to 17:00 (* Some attractions will close at 16:00)

Susukino Site (Susukino Ice World 2019)

Location: From Ekimae-dori Minami 4 jo Dori to Minami 7 jo Dori

Schedule: February 4th, 2019 (Monday) to February 11, 2019 (Monday/Holiday)

Time: All hours (Illumination is lit until 23:00. *22:00 on the final day)
