Tallinn was named the 2022 UNESCO City of Music by its international cooperation partner UNESCO. Consequently, Tallinn is adopted into the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN), whose aim is to prioritise the role of culture and creativity in sustainably developing cities. Currently, 47 cities are part of the music cities category in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.

Tallinn’s candidacy was established on the basis of Tallinn Music Strategy 2022-2025; the strategy will be carried out by Tallinn’s Culture & Sports Department. The key vision of the strategy is to offer further opportunities for both the creation and enjoyment of music. Additionally, there is an emphasis on supporting the continuous development and succession of the music industry. The city will now start devising a detailed roadmap on the basis of the strategy and hopes to include all parties to the music industry in this process.

More information on the application process and the roadmap for advancing music culture is available at www.tallinn.ee/eng/cityofmusic.
