Being 160 kilometers away from the downtown Kunming, Jiaozi Snow Mountain Scenic Area is situated at the border between Dongchuan District and Luquan Yi and Miao Autonomous County. Jiaozi Mountain gets its name from its resemblance to a traditional Chinese sedan (Jiao Zi). Jiaozi Mountain Scenic Area consists of Mt. Jiaozi , Mt. Qiwang, Mt. Dongying and Mt. Guanyin and covers over 250 square kilometers. Jiaozi Mountain, with the highest altitude at 4,223 meters above sea level, appears to be the “highest mountain in central Yunnan”

Jiaozi Mountain belongs to mountainous glacial landforms. Inside the scenic area, visitors can witness lofty peaks and precipices, well-preserved virgin forests, glacial lakes, alpine meadows and glaciers. The entire scenic area also abounds in fauna and flora resources. It is famous for its peculiar and intoxicating sceneries throughout all four seasons and its rich ethnic cultures. Jiaozi Mountain was listed as a natural reserve of Kunming in 1989 and a provincial-level scenic attraction in 1993.

Jiaozi Mountain is located between the fault zones of Xiaojiang River and Pudu River. The mountain is known for its special geological formations and complicated landforms due to the changing climate. The famous sights there include alpine lakes, snow, rhododendrons, clouds, a beautiful sunrise and Buddhist halo.

1)-The Middle Route: 160 km or a three hours ride that includes visiting: Black Dragon Pool (Kunming), Aziying Town (Songming County), Kedu Town (Xundian County), Tangdian Town (Xundian County), and Zhuanlong Town (Luquan County); Azhiying, the hometown of lilies in China; Kedu-Dangui Red Army Memorial; Tangdian-traffic hub, suitable for accommodation; and Zhuanlong-tourist service center of Jiaozi Scenic Area, where accommodations are available.

2)-The West Route: 210 km or a 4.5 hour drive: Huangtupo (Kunming), Zhebei Town (Fumin County), Pingshan Town (county seat of Luquan), Cuihua Town, Jiulong Town, Tangdian (Xundian County), and Zhuanlong Town.

Fumin County is known for Jiafeng Mountain Scenic Attraction, 20,000 acres of red-bay berries, 8,000 acres of grapes and 5,000 acres of cherries. The county has an annual red-bay berry festival that’s held from May to August.. Heading eastwards from Pingshan Town (county seat of Luquan), you can get to Jiaozi Mountain. Going northwards, you can find Jiaopingdu an ideal place with the Red Army sites.

3)-The East route: 220 km: Kunming-Songming County-Songdai Expressway, Dongchuan District. This route will lead directly to Jiaozi Mountain (Dongchuan). Heading westwards, you will arrive at Tangdian Town where the West route and the East route conjoin. By taking this route, you can visit the famous debris flow landform in Jiangjiagou and the Red Lands.
