Everyone is welcome to come and watch winter fishing at Jingpo Lake Scenic Area, Mudanjiang. Fishing at Jingpo Lake can date back to China’s Liao and Jin Dynasties. The water quality is good, and plenty of aquatic animals live in it, with over 60 kinds of fish among them. The winter fishing site is located at the south side of the lake. Before the winter fishing starts, a “Sacrifice to the Lake, Wake up the Net” ceremony is held, and a Manchu style Yangko performance takes place. With the high-pitched voices of the fishermen, a more than 800-meter-long net is slowly pulled out of the ice hole. Immediately, bighead carp, crucian carp, carp and other fishes begin rolling and jumping on the ice cap. The scene of tens of thousands of fish coming out of the ice hole is thrilling. A single net of fish weighing 430,000 kilograms during the lake’s winter fishing once broke the national fishing record of China, which hasn’t been surpassed so far. It is said that seeing the winter fishing during the New Year signals that you will have lots of good luck during the whole year. Therefore, the grand Jingpo Lake Winter Fishing Festival attracts tens of thousands of tourists on January 6 each year. In addition, this year’s Jingpo Lake will launch activities such as “Big Nets Catching Fish”, “Small Nets Hanging Fish” and so on, which means no matter when you visit Jingpo Lake, you can still catch and taste fish.
