Sanya to up City Eco and Sewage System Repairs

A new plan for Sanya’s “Double Repair” construction development was recently unveiled during a government meeting.

The local government will attach great importance to repairing the ecology of its shores, mountains, and hills. According to the development plan, the government will focus on 174 projects this year, covering city revamping, ecological recovery, “Sponge City” construction, and the installation of an underground pipeline system.

To tackle pollution in the city’s rivers and streams, Sanya will strengthen ecosystem management on the Damao River, the Ningyuan River, and the Tengqiao River. Measures will be taken to reduce pollution in the rivers by introducing sewage pipelines and sewage treatment facilities; and by finding scientific ways to stop local actors from dumping garbage into the area’s waterways.

Last yeat, eight mountains were selected for the Sanya mountain recovery plan. To speed up ecological recovery in the mountain areas, the city will further revise its mountain recovery plan, banning real estate projects on the slopes of the mountains and hills, and returning 35 mountains to their original state.

In addition, the “Double Repair” plan will seek to increase confidence in the city’s environment among tourists and residents by replanting trees to rescue over-exploited mountains, and by building more gardens and wetland parks (including Baopoxi Ecological Park and the reconstruction of Luhuitou Park).
